Storms

We had horrible storms throughout Ohio last night. The tornado sirens were going off for most of the evening in my town.

Just hours before it started, I visited our new local pet store. Of course I couldn't leave without a new little friend. emoticon She is a grey and white guinea pig. I was trying to decide what to call her and my sister thought of the name Storm. Her gray color reminded me of storm clouds so I thought that would be a good name choice. After her first evening with me, most of which was spent taking shelter from the storms, I think her name is rather appropriate.

Isn't she just a cutie!

Paws, Claws, Scales, and Tales

Paws, Claws Scales and Tales is the summer theme that was chosen for Ohio public libraries to use for their reading activities this year. As a planned activity for the Sabina Library, young people were able to take a field trip to my house to see all of my animals.

The kids had a lot of fun yesterday morning meeting my babies and learning more about some different animals. For many of them it was the first time they had ever seen a chinchilla, sugar glider, and/or hedgehog. When I went up to the chinchilla mansion I had one of the kids yell out, "Look it's rabbits." This was followed by another kid saying, "No it's just a big hamster", before I could tell them what they were.

Thorn, one of my hedgehogs, was such a ham for the kids. He seemed to like the attention he was getting as he ran around playing. He kept sticking his head inside a toilet paper tube and running around with it stuck on the top of his head. Then he would start using it to push a toy ball around so he could hear the bell.
