A hosted phone system is what many small and medium businesses are increasingly opting for in today's technologically advanced world. A hosted phone system can often be much less complex than regular options for a couple reasons. For starters, all the technical routing software and phone cabinet materials are housed at the data center for the phone service provider. All that a business needs to take care of is their actual physical phones, computers, and any other software or hardware that they're using.
With a hosted phone solution, calls are actually routed to the business through a dedicated T-1 line or the open internet. There are both advantages and disadvantages to this type of system. If you're looking at possibly installing this type of a solution for your communication needs, here are some of the things that you should think about.
Advantages of Hosted Phones
Initial Setup - The cost of a hosted phone system is usually much lower than that of a regular IP PBX system. The reason for this is simple: since all the major hardware of the system is kept at the service provider's data center, businesses only have to pay for their service on a "per seat" basis. This is an especially attractive offer for small businesses that don't have that many employees or a need for too many phone systems.
Reliability - A hosted phone solution is much more reliable and stronger than any other type of service. Commercial power backups and data storage requirements are usually in place so that the networking functions of the phones and other hardware are always working properly.
Easy Control - Businesses that have a hosted phone solution in place simply have to log into their online phone account to update speed dials, call groups, and perform all other types of account maintenance. Voicemails and call logs that are available through online accounts are also benefits of a hosted phone service.
Lower Overall Cost - When something goes wrong with this type of a phone service or you have questions about phone configuration, your service provider is going to be the one to turn to for help. In addition, many hosted phone providers have 24/7 technical support so that help is only a phone call away.
Disadvantages of Hosted Phones
Security Options - Since calls are routed using VOIP through an open internet connection, security is not automatic. However, this can be fixed by installing firewalls and other gateways on the company's network so that security of phone conversations and other concerns are not compromised
Call Quality - Many VOIP hosted phone systems are dependent upon the amount of bandwidth that is designated. Even though many companies have enough bandwidth for the amount of calls they need to receive and place, it may take some trial and error to find the best call quality possible.
The hosted phone service for a business is definitely a viable option that thousands of businesses have already taken advantage of. A solution that is truly budget sensitive for all companies, a hosted phone solution does provide just about all the benefits that you need in a phone service and the advantages of having one definitely outweigh any disadvantages!
