Ready made PCs that are all set to fly straight out of the box can still prove to be excellent value for money. They are already built for instant use and will be suitable for most people who are looking for a computer that just needs to be plugged in to use. Many electrical retailers will have boxes lined up on shelves, all of which will look almost identical. Although most people's needs are standard enough, there will invariably be a clutch of people who will require different specifications. What, then, should these people be looking at when looking for a custom made PC?
The quick answer to this question is "everything". That's right, just about every component and peripheral can be hand picked. Because of the number of internal components, added to the number of external peripherals, this leads to an almost infinite number of possibilities. So, to begin with, any designer PC must start with the nuts and bolts. In today's market, you will find a host of computer motherboards (http://www.tradestead.com/wholesale/computer-peripherals/motherboards/) available, all of which essentially do the same thing, but some will do it better than others. It is upon this complicated circuit board that every other piece will be dependant on in terms of making things work. Graphics cards, sound cards, wireless adapters, RAM and an almost endless list of other pieces of technology will look like they've been grafted on to it. The majority of computer users will not care about this understated component, but serious techies will carefully inspect the motherboard to ensure that it meets their exact requirements.
Selecting a processor will also take a bit of time, too. With main choices being either from Intel or AMD, end users will then need to decide if they need dual core, quad core or just a single core. Once that is decided, the processor speed has to be taken into account too. Bearing in mind that computer motherboards will only take one brand of processor, it may well be wise to select the processor first. It's a bit of a chicken and egg scenario, but the final combination will rarely let anybody down.
Next, the graphics card will play a very important part. After all, it is through this piece of equipment that will allow the visual displays to appear on the monitor. Increasingly, DVI output is being favored more as the world catches up to higher definition quality. It's akin to trying something good and not wanting to go back to average. With this minimum requirement of being able to see things, it is only the hardcore gamers that will seek something with greater power and performance. To most people, the difference will not be so obvious.
Optical drives will also provide a bit of thinking. Reading and writing CDs and DVDs are standard issue for these machines. However, some will now also support the same features for BluRay discs, the highest of high definition quality and largest capacity. Whatever you decide, removable media storage will continue to be important, as it is impossible to judge just how much internal hard disk space a computer will require over its life.
Following all of this, what remains of the internal components can be selected at will. Most parts will work quite easily without many problems. For most people, the main decisions will come with the bits that they can physically see.
