Why does my USB printer only work when connected directly to the laptop and not thru a hub?
I am using a USB-to-parallel adapter to connect an older Canon inkjet to my new laptop. Everything works fine when connected directly to the laptop USB port. However it does not work when using a Dynex Crystal externally powered USB hub. Windows 7 recognizes the USB-to-parallel adapter as IEEE 1284 controller when connected thru the hub, but nothing prints to the printer. Windows 7 troubleshooter says everything is OK. All other devices (mouse, flash drives, etc.) work thru the hub. Device Manager says USB Printing Support and power is available at the USB hub when the printer is connected. Any help is appreciated.
That Dynex hub isn't a very good one. It only supplies about 1/4 the DC power a real USB 2.0 port does, so some high power devices won't work with it.
There's a reason Dynex gear is the lowest price.
